The Shanghai Zhangjiang BIO Delegation represents one of the largest and most successful life science parks in China. After attending BIO 2008 International Convention in San Diego, the delegation is coming to Irvine on June 25 to:

Promote Zhanjiang Bio-Pharmaceutical Base and Pharma Valley Incubator
Attract overseas entrepreneurs to start new life science companies in Shanghai and overseas life science professionals to work in Shanghai
Attract overseas investors/venture capital firms to invest in emerging life science companies in China

Introduction Zhangjiang Biotech and Pharmaceutical Base
The Zhangjiang Biotech and Pharmaceutical Base located in Pudong Shanghai is one of the 3 major Technology Clusters in Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park. The park covers an area of 17 km2 and is currently being expanded to 25 km2.

In 1996, in order to accelerate the development of bio-pharmaceutical Industry, Zhangjiang became a "State Biotech & Pharmaceutical Industry Base". The focus of the base is on Biotechnology, Chemical Drugs, Medtech, Modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Specialty Chemicals. In the recent years the Biotech and Pharmaceutical Base enjoyed a very fast growth and has become one of the most important life science Parks nationwide.

Besides two Universities, 19 National and Shanghai level Institutes and more then ten Service platforms, it is home for over 400 companies and Institutes dedicated to build a globally competitive Biotech and Pharmaceutical Base. More than half of the top ten pharmaceutical companies, as well several of the globally leading Specialty Chemical Companies have established their R&D Centers in the Cluster.

Leading local and international CRO companies do have a strong presence in the park, supporting global and local customers. In order to foster innovation and support young entrepreneurs and companies two Incubators are operational and a third one is under construction.  There are over 300 small and medium sized companies contributing to the  further development of the Chinese Healthcare Industry. Recently many companies have attracted attention of major local and global Venture Capital Organizations and several of them got significant funding.

Taking advantage of Shanghai's openness and international environment, based on returnees, local and international talents, a driving multicultural science community of more than 20,000 people has been formed.

Relying on  Pudong's and Shanghai's sophisticated Service Sectors,  a strong  Service network has developed inside the park, including suppliers of equipment and reagents, Banks, Law firms, Consultants, Hotels, Restaurants, shops etc.
